What is City of Light Service Corps?

The City of Light Service Corps, open to people of all faiths, is a year-long service program which engages young adults (typically recent college graduates) in direct service work with poor and/or marginalized populations at non-profit agencies through the Buffalo community.

Service Corps is guided by four Core Values: Self-Exploration, Civic Leadership, Service and Relationship Building.  The program helps equip young leaders with the skills and resources they need to unify their professional skills and interests with their values and passions all while serving.

In the words of author, philosopher, theologian, educator and civil rights leader, Howard Thurman, Service Corps challenges its members to “do not ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

“Being in a place that is so different from what I am used to has forced me to become more observant and allows me to see things that people embedded in this community may have never noticed.”
— Phillip Koski, Service Corps 15-16
